How Old Are These?

Ok, so it took me a while, but (thanks to Erica) I have my ultrasounds scanned in now. Keep in mind these are super old.

Ten weeks. (49mm) The baby is upside down, but you can see its head, arms and legs!

Six weeks. (8mm)

Five weeks.

Car Lover?

So, I have noticed that the baby moves more in the car than any other place. It always seems that as soon as I get in the car, I notice little movements that then become big movements! I am not sure if this means the baby loves the car rides or hates the car rides. I am going to pretend that he or she loves them, because I love to feel the movements! I see this as a glimpse into our future, too. I can just imagine having to put the baby on top of the dryer or taking a drive around the block to get him/her to stop crying. Side note - John: this does not mean that our baby will want to work on antique cars in its spare time. Don't get excited. However, if they show a genuine interest, I can't imagine a better person to learn from than you!

You're Outta Here!

Gary and I have narrowed the field. We have decided that Tyler and Ethan are no longer options for boys names. So, it's between Porter and Zachary. We really can't decide either way and we are even willing to add new options. I think we have pretty much dismissed Samantha, too. It's not too late to change your vote! :) Side note - In recognition of the World Series (go Sox), imagine that you are saying the title of this blog in your best umpire voice.

Drum Roll, Please...

It's official! Our baby is a mover and a shaker! I thought I had felt the baby move a few times over the last few days, but Tuesday morning I definitely felt him/her! And again this morning! It doesn't feel like much at this point, just little "pops." Anyhow, I am very excited! I try really hard to be still throughout the day, so that I can feel the movements, but so far they have only been in the early morning. Three weeks and counting til we find out if it's a boy or a girl! Keep praying for a happy, healthy baby! :)

Week 16

According to baby.com: At 4 1/2 inches long (head to bottom) and 3 1/2 ounces, your baby is about the size of an avocado. In the next three weeks, she'll go through a tremendous growth spurt, though, doubling her weight and adding inches to her length. Her lower limbs are much more developed now. Her head is more erect than it has been, and her eyes have moved toward the front of her head. Your baby's ears are close to their final position, too. Some of her more advanced body systems are working, including her circulatory system and urinary tract. Her heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, circulating her total blood volume through her body many times. (By the end of your pregnancy, this will increase to about 190 quarts.) The patterning of her scalp has begun, though her hair isn't recognizable yet. Although closed, her eyes are moving (slowly), and she's even started growing toenails.

Week 15 Update

We went back to the doctor yesterday. It was our shortest visit to date. I think we saw Dr. Klein for a grand total of two minutes. He didn't do the ultrasound this time, but we did get to hear the baby's heartbeat on the doppler machine. All is good! Our next visit is the big ultrasound. I hope we can see if it is a boy or girl! :)

Last, But Not Least

So, I finally got to tell Leigh Ann about us having a baby. Jess, Leigh Ann and I went to this cute little Mexican food place last night (that smells like bar-b-que). I wanted to be able to tell all "the girls" in person, so this worked out perfectly! She was, of course, super excited and I am so happy that they all know now. I felt like Joey trying to keep a secret. Jess wanted to feel my belly. She is the first person who has asked to do that. There isn't much there, but you can definitely see a pouch. I told Gary that we need to take our first belly photo tonight. I am exactly fourteen weeks today and I am boldly welcoming the second trimester with open arms!
