Relaxin'

Grant is the funniest kid! He does things all the time that I wish I could share with others, but I always seem to have the misfortune of not having my camera on and ready! This time I was able to catch some of his antics on film...
What toddler sits like this? I mean, really? I can just see him watching football in 20 years while sitting in this exact pose.

Vitamin D and Grayson's First Hoodie

We have been a bit cooped up the last few weeks due to icky weather. It's supposed to get bad again tonight and tomorrow, so we decided to take advantage of a pretty afternoon to increase our vitamin D intake. Grant took his firetruck for a spin while Grayson and I sat on a blanket in the yard.
Putting out all the neighborhood fires! Grant has become really good at staying within my imaginary boundaries. He knows exactly how far is too far... and at this point in time, he is enjoying obeying the rules (his limit is about an hour... after that the neighborhood is his playground). It makes it so much nicer being outside.
"Out of my way... here I come!"
Grayson has graduated to some new outfits... I just love this little hoodie. It looks like he is saying, "What up, bro?" Did I do that right?
Awwww!!!! What a cutie! I swear I have the most beautiful children that ever existed.

Sleep Is Overrated...

... or at least that is what I keep telling myself. Many things have been disturbing our sleep patterns lately. Grayson likes to eat every 1.5-2 hours, so I am up frequently during the night. Grant has decided (only since Grayson has been home) that he now has to sleep in bed with us. And he is not easy to sleep with. Gary wakes up every morning at 5:00 and I wake up somewhere between 5:30-6:00 to feed Grayson. Since Grant is in bed with us, he now wakes up at that time too! Which then affects his nap time. He has started passing out on the couch, in his chair or on the floor at random times of the day. It's all a vicious cycle...

Funny story: Grant fell asleep (at 9:15) on the way to a MOMS Club activity yesterday. By the time we got there, he was dead to the world. Well, I unbuckle him while I am talking to Carley, pull him out of the car seat and put him on the ground. I totally forgot he was SLEEPING, thus his legs didn't catch him and he fell on the ground! He woke up rubbing his eyes and looking at me like I was crazy. I guess I am just so used to him walking everywhere, that I forgot it helps to wake him up first. Let's blame that moment on my own sleep deprivation.

A Day of Spontaneity

For the first time yesterday, we decided to go on a walk without the stroller. We headed out our front door to start the journey. Grant seemed a bit confused at first, but loved every minute of it. Since he was picking up every leaf, twig and rock, we thought he would really enjoy a true outdoor experience... a state park! So we walked back to the car and took the short drive to Brazos Bend.
I realize the picture is fuzzy, but he is looking at the camera AND smiling. I don't think that has happened in months. Enjoy! I told him to say, "Cheese." He is saying it, just not while looking at the camera!
We walked quite a ways... then Grant got a little tired. So he spent the rest of the trip on Gary's shoulders.

One Month Old (The Month of Funny Faces)

Grayson is already a month old! These milestones always seem to sneak up on me. He reminds me so much of Grant, yet is so different. Grayson sleeps all day. Grant slept all night. Grayson is the sweetest baby. Grant was the strongest baby. I think Grayson is going to have Gary's tender-heartedness and Grant is going to have Gary's charm. I snapped a few photos of my boy over the last few days. He makes the funniest faces I have ever seen...
"Mom, it's time to eat!" (It's always time to eat... this child never stops!) "Or maybe I just want to go to sleep..."
"Yep, definitely sleep."
"No, never mind! I'm awake now... why am I falling?"
Ok, this picture says it all...
Grant: "What can I do to Grayson to make mommy mad?"
Grayson: "Mommy, what have you done?"
Grant makes me laugh daily. He also frustrates me daily. A typical conversation for us:
Mommy: "Grant, let's put on your shoes so we can go outside."
Grant: "No." (Starts running around and laughing as if I should be amused.)
Mommy: "Don't you want to go outside?"
Grant: "Mmm-hmmm."
Mommy: "Well, then we have to put on your shoes."
Grant: "No." (Laughing even harder.)
Mommy: "Grayson wants you to put on your shoes so we can go outside."
Grant: Sits down in my lap and puts on his shoes. He will do whatever his brother 'says.' I'm so glad I've learned that one. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that it works for more than just a few days. I love how much he loves his brother!
In other news, Grant isn't feeling well. He didn't nap at all yesterday, but passed out on the couch. He went to bed at 6:30 last night, but was up at 5:30 this morning. Poor boy doesn't know which way is up right now. He is so tired and miserable. And it's only a cold!

I Love Surprises!!!

Jess asked if she could come over last week and bring us pizza. I agreed, of course! About the time she was to arrive, I hear the door bell ring. I go to answer the door and see Mrs. Walker, Julie's mom, standing there! I thought, "How sweet! Julie's mom came with Jess to see us!" Then, out of the corner of my eye, I see Julie!!! Those silly girls tricked me again! But I love it! Julie was passing through town on her way back home... and lucky me, I get a visit.
Jess and Grayson.
My sweet boy slept the whole time the girls were here (he had just had his circumcision).
Grant and his mommy! Grant loved Jess! In fact, Jess spent 80% of her time in his room playing with him. She even taught him to throw things at girls. Thanks, Jess.
Gary, Jess and Grayson.
We all join in!
My girl, Julie, holding our newest blessing!
Julie's mom even got in on it... actually, she probably held him the most. Like I said Jess was being entertained by Grant and Julie and I were chatting. What a great surprise! I love you girls! Thanks for stopping by!

It's All The Rage

Even though I taught idioms to fourth graders, I have no skill when using them myself. This isn't news to me, but it has become apparent that I use idioms incorrectly ALL THE TIME and no one ever corrects me.
What not to say: "It's all the rage!"
Correct usage: "It's all the rave!"
According to Jessica, I only have idiots as friends, as no one has ever noticed that I say this incorrectly. She also believes that I have an inner anger issue that is being revealed in this slip of the tongue. Hmmmm?
Side note: As soon as I get some pictures, I'll let you in on the great big surprise I had last night.
