Welcome Austin Trevino Scogin

Welcome to our nephew, Austin Trevino Scogin! He arrived yesterday to proud parents Greg and Jen weighing 7 lbs 5 oz and measuring 19 inches. Mom and baby are both doing well! Since our little family wasn't able to be there for the birth, we are relying heavily on other's descriptions and these few precious photos to get to know our nephew. Isn't he sweet? I think he's beautiful! Look at all that dark hair! The proud parents hold their new son.

I love this picture. There's nothing like looking into those eyes for the first time. Plus, he just looks so handsome!

Since the boys haven't met Austin yet, they wanted to send him a special message...

... however, we need to work on our communication skills...

... but I think cousin Austin will get the idea!

Two Months Old

It's hard to believe, but Grayson is two months old! Time flies when you're having fun! He had his two month well check today. His stats are as follows:

Height: 22 3/4 inches 21%

Weight: 11 pounds 17%

Head: 14 1/2 inches 1%

I just knew Grayson's head was small! But Brother has a small head too, so I'm not too concerned. However, the doctor did mention that the small head, low body temp and slow bowels might be indicative of a low thyroid. If his head doesn't grow or other issues arise, we will test for it at a later date. The best part about the last few weeks has been Grayson's smile. You are most likely to get him to smile in the mornings. He loves to have his tummy tickled. And he is so close to a true laugh, as well. He opens his mouth real wide and starts to breathe heavy. He occasionally throws in a small noise that sounds like it is so close to being a giggle. I love those moments.

Road Trip!

Gary was supposed to have practice Wednesday night, an away game on Thursday and a Lacrosse tournament in College Station this weekend. The boys and I decided we should go spend some time with our friends, the Ballards, and then make our way to spend the weekend with Oma, Grandpa, Uncle Mike and Aunt Robin.

I have to brag on my boys just a bit. It was a REALLY easy road trip... totally not expected when traveling with a newborn and a two-year-old. They did such a great job! We arrived to Erica and Elijah greeting us in the driveway. The boys were so excited to see each (as usual) and it was great to see Erica, too!

Grant found his new favorite book on Elijah's bookshelf. It's a book of poems, each poem about a different engine on Thomas & Friends. One night he actually fell asleep while clutching this book. It was so cute. Bathtime!

Thursday was icky and cold, so we gave the kiddos some indoor playtime at a jump house! Grant found a slide to go down a few times and then decided that I had to do it with him. Well, I went up and down with him a few times and then needed to feed Grayson. I tried to Grant to play with some of the toys on his own. No luck. He just threw a tantrum in the middle of the floor. That's how he spent his playtime... Elijah, on the other hand, had a grea time!

He even got his mom to join him!

Grant did like playing with the caution signs. Go figure!

This was my tired boy just seconds after leaving the Ballards. He must have been worn out from all that playing! After leaving, we made a stop to visit my family. Aunt Robin greeted the boys with new toys and we enjoyed some bar-b-que for dinner. Grant crawled up into Grandpa's lap that evening and passed out! Unfortunately, the rest of the evening didn't go so well for Grant. He was up all night vomitting. Poor thing! But we had a great time visiting the family!

Jump N Jungle

Grant, Grayson and I went to Jump N Jungle this morning with MOMS Club. Grant had an absolute ball! All morning he would look at me and say, "Jump, jump."

He's never seen his feet leave the ground! Grant either didn't have the motor skills or the guts to climb up this thing by himself. So I picked him up and we climbed up together... this is a LOT harder than it looks. We probably went up and down 15 times, but he giggled on the way down every time. When we got to the bottom, he'd look up at me and say, "More, more."

Grant's first experience jumping!

After a little while, Jump N Jungle opened a new room that had a smaller slide. Grant was able to do this one all by himself. He did well for a while, but towards the end he was getting tired. He got up to the top at one point, got scared and wouldn't come down. I had to go get him. Well, I had Grayson in the sling. So I am climbing down while holding both of them. The very last step wasn't inflated all the way, so when I stepped on it, it collapsed. I started falling belly first onto the hard ground. I had two choices: fall on Grayson or fall on Grant. What a choice! Well, I had to choose Grant. He's fine, but he is a little banged up. I felt so bad for him. Tough ending to a great playdate!

Playtime

The boys and I have been having a lot of fun (at home) lately! I love getting out of the house and staying busy, but there is something to be said for good old fashioned playtime at home. Grayson and I sit on the rug in Grant's room while he wanders from toy to toy. I talk to Grayson in between reading books, building towers and naming the parts of the train with Grant. Grant lovingly gives some of his toys to Grayson (and then lovingly takes them back).

Grant eating a crayon! One of my biggest frustrations lately is that Grant is chewing on all of his toys! I started putting up some of my favorites, so that they won't get ruined before Grayson has a chance to play with them. Grant playing with his 'choo-choos.' This boy knows more about trains than most adults. For those of you who aren't local, we have a train that runs through town. If ever I need to 'bribe' Grant to get in the car, I tell him we'll go over the tracks. Works almost every time. And he knows exactly where those tracks are... don't think about driving a few blocks away without making a detour to the tracks.

Grant plays with these trains everyday. I love the end of the video... he just looks so sweet leaning his head on his arm. What a cutie!

Quiet Book

I have been really interested in soft play toys lately. I have researched a bunch of different brands, but have decided that I would get more satisfaction out of creating some myself. For my first project, I thought I would start easy and just buy a pattern. I found a really cute pattern for a quiet book about colors. I am modifying it so that it is also an activity book (instead of sewing the wheels onto the car, I made them so Grant/Grayson can button and unbutton the wheels).

The red page of the colors quiet book. I thought it turned out fairly cute. After I finish this book, I want to create my own patterns and designs. If anyone has any ideas, please share!

Relaxin'

Grant is the funniest kid! He does things all the time that I wish I could share with others, but I always seem to have the misfortune of not having my camera on and ready! This time I was able to catch some of his antics on film...

What toddler sits like this? I mean, really? I can just see him watching football in 20 years while sitting in this exact pose.
